The issue of ecosystem services worldwide is very current topic. With growing demands on the use of services and products that our country offers, the need for identification and subsequent valuation of ecosystems increases. Analysis of the potential ecosystem services allows to evaluate the consequences of intentions affecting the ecosystems in the context of increasing levels of sustainability of land use. Ecosystems and the services that ecosystems provide are dynamic. They respond to the constant influences that change their state and functioning. Research results of the identification and evaluation of the potential of selected ecosystem services of non-forest biotopes in the surroundings of rural village Štiavnické Bane (the Carpathians, Slovakia) bring the design and validation of methodological approaches based on inductive approaches „bottom to top“. From the overall assessment of biotopes, it can be stated that the identified biotopes in the designed area have provided the potential to provide production, regulatory and cultural ecosystem services by their functions and capacity. The level of providing benefits was slightly different. At a high level, ecosystem production services have been identified in the biotopes of meadows and pastures, especially in xerophilous grassland and foothill meadows. Most of the assessed biotopes in the area has evaluated the high potential of providing cultural ES for local residents. Particularly, the species of foothill meadows, reed communities and wetlands have provided cultural and recreational effects with their shape, appearance and color.
