Ľuboš Feciškanin, Identification of recognized white fir stands for mitochondrial DNA analysis, Diploma thesis, Technical University in Zvolen, Faculty of Forestry, Adaptive Forestry, Department of Phytology, Head of Diploma Thesis Ing. Diana Krajmerová PhD., 51pThe aim of the work was to determine the occurrence and identification of the origin of recognized white fir stands based on mitochondrial DNA analyzes. The white fir range can be divided into two areas based on variability above the 5-4 marker. The Western and Central European populations of the Northern Apennine refugee contain only a longer length of about 230 bp, while the populations of southeastern Europe from the Balkan refugee are characterized by the presence of a shorter about 150 bp long over the 5-4 marker. According to previous research, all Slovak populations, and hence recognized crops, should include a longer marker variant. The aim of the thesis is to confirm the identity of Slovak white fir stands to Central European populations based on the identification of alleles above the 5-4 marker. The occurrence of a shorter marker variant would confirm the potential introduction of white fir from the Balkan refugee region.
