Housing textiles are used in every type of interior. They have a big influence not only in households but also in public buildings such as hotels, hospitals, etc. Considering that flat textiles are inflammable polymer fabric and can boldly contribute to spreading and expanding fire it is needed to be concerned with their fire technical features. We are characterising textiles and their flammability, textile fabrics, retardancy adjustments and products of burning in a theoretical part of this final thesis. Later we are describing test methods, which are used for measuring textile’s flammability in Slovakia and abroad. The aim of this final thesis is the ignitability evaluation of the selected types of curtains and sheers based on two methods of determining the ignitibility of a staple textiles. First method was used for detecting ease of ignition of the samples according to the STN EN ISO 6940 (2004). We set the flame spread time based on international norm STN EN ISO 6941 (2003). Overall, we have tested ten different types of flat textiles thereof three types of sheers and seven types of curtains, natural cotton and synthetic polyester – based. Five of the tested samples had have retardancy adjustment. With results, we came to the conclusion that structure and direction of fibres have influence on the ease of ignition and the flame spread time. Samples made of nature based fibres have ignited faster than synthetic or mixed textiles. With testing, we proved that samples with warp fibres are allocating less satisfying results in terms of fire protection than samples with weft fibres. The results indicate that non-flammable textiles adjustments are increasing the textile’s flames resistance thus they are decreasing the fire risk of the housing textiles.
