ORLOVSKÝ, Lukáš: Activation of Bark Insects in Forest Areas Damaged by Wind Calamity.[ Diploma thesis ] Lukáš Orlovský – Technical University in Zvolen. Faculty of Forestry – Department of Integrated Forest and Landscape Protection. Supervisor: Ing. Pavol Hlaváč, PhD. . Zvolen : LF TU, 2017 The diploma thesis presents facts and contexts related to an activation of bark insects in forest areas damaged by wind calamity called Žofia in 2014. These forest stands are located in mountain range Branisko in localities of Na Škopiská and Petrova hora. The main objective of this work was the selection of the locality and a numerosity evaluation of bark insects in calamity areas. The thesis deals with bark insects, its numerosity and the consequences of their excessive reproduction. The theoretical part of the thesis refers to ways of setting up pheromonal intercepters in forest stands after wind calamity. On the model territory, we became familiar with the climatic and terrain conditions of the given localities, where the the pheromonal intercepters were installed. According to particular calamity areas, the effectiveness of the pheromonal intercepters and the amount of trapped bark beetles were evaluated. We assessed the condition of ten spruces in each of the twenty pheromone intercepters and we compared the change of defoliation and decoloration between the first and the second measurement. The results of the research have shown the deteriorating health status of spruce stands in the given localities due to the excessive reproduction of bark insects. By all-season monitoring, we found a strong degree of eight-toothed spruce bark beetle. At the end of the thesis, we proposed some protective measures representing the possible contribution of our diploma thesis for the current practice.
