Mrenicová, Nikoleta, Bc.: Structure of Oak Forests Managed according to PRO SILVA Principles at Forest Administration in Krásnohorské Podhradie [Diploma thesis] /Nikoleta Mrenicová – Technical University in Zvolen, Faculty of Forestry, Department of Silviculture. – Thesis director: Ing. Milan Saniga, DrSc.; Consultant: Ing. Ján Pittner, PhD. Zvolen: FF TU, 2017, 63 p.The main goal of this diploma thesis is to analyse the structure of oak forests which are being managed according to PRO SILVA principles at forest administration in Krásnohorské Podhradie. The introductory part of the thesis describes sessile oak as a species, its ecological and environmental demands, natural occurrence in various types of forests, notably in Slovakia. Regarding its growth ability the thesis further deals with the most appropriate methods of growing and regeneration as well as possibilities of its natural regeneration. The experimental part is divided into two sections: selected dendrometric measurements, carried out at the set of permanent research areas /PRA/ and transect measurements analysing regeneration processes of the examined species as well as a productive usage of the growth area among crowns of particular trees. According to the measured results it can be concluded, that the highest proportion of natural rejuvenation occurred in the coppice No.348, namely 28,820 pcs/ha. The lower figure, approximately 6000 pcs/ha, was found in other coppices. This relatively small proportion of natural tree rejuvenation was caused by the degree of shading reaching as much as 86% in the given areas of transects in the coppice No.361. In particular PRA areas established in sections 347, 348, 361, 362 a Stand Visualization System – SVS was used to display the structure graphically. In conclusion, it would be appropriate to carry out a silvicultural intervention aimed at the decrease of surface cover, because being a sunlit species; oaks need enough sunlight for their optimal growth.
