HRDLIČKA, Jozef: Incidence of Fibropapillomatosis, a neoplastic disease, in Red deer (Cervus elaphus) within the district of Lučenec. [Masters Thesis] - Technical University in Zvolen. Faculty of Forestry, Department of Applied Zoology and Wildlife Management. Masters thesis supervisor: doc. MVDr. Dušan Rajský, PhD. Graduate qualification: Master of Engineering (M.Eng.). Zvolen: FF TU, 2017, 62 pages. The purpose of the thesis Incidence of Fibropapillomatosis, a neoplastic disease, in Red deer (Cervus elaphus) within the district of Lučenec is to draw attention to incidence of fibropapillomatosis in cervids with a focus on Red deer (Cervus elaphus). We paid attention to the characteristics of the disease, to its occurrence and its spread given the situation in Slovakia, these were obtained through various research services, in particular in-depth research analysis and studies by several authors. The main focus of this thesis was placed upon the hunting areas in the district of Lučenec, where we tried to monitor the incidence of fibropapillomatosis in Red deer since 2011, the year when the first positive case of the disease was confirmed. Conducting research on the basis of the replies to our questionnaires, the presence of fibropapillomatosis was confirmed by four users of hunting areas. In all cases, only female deer were affected by the disease. In all cases, the material was obtained within the legal hunting time for deer. We found out that fibropapillomatosis was located within the northwestern part of the district territory and the hunting areas in which the disease occured were spatially interrelated. In accordance with studies by several authors cited in this paper, the tumour localization was detected on the abdominal and on the inner thigh skin of affected individuals. This thesis with its content contributes to clarifying the issues of fibropapillomatosis in cervids, with a focus on red deer. Its main significance lies in the fact that it´s filling up a mosaic of knowledge about the incidence and prevalence of this disease within the territory of Slovakia as well as the specific etiology of fibropapillomatosis. The contribution of this work lies also in formulated recommendations for hunting practice that are in accord with studies by several authors.
