The dissertation thesis dealt with suggestion of new way of sawmill products from beech wood application. The main goal was to examine utilization possibilities of various quality beech lumber considering the red heart wood occurrence in lumber as a secondary sawmilling source. European beach (Fagus sylvatica L.) is our the most important deciduous tree used in industrial processing, thus, the dissertation shows another possible beech wood utilization in building industry and in the field of design as a construction element – hollow wooden column. The hollow columns were prepared from beech wood with content of sap wood and red heart wood. Total number of five reduced models and five real size columns were prepared. The hollow wooden columns production technology was improved by CNC milling, which significantly increased accuracy and quality of final product. Mechanical properties were purpose-modelled by non-destructive determinations of dynamic modulus of elasticity. Deformations on the reduced models loaded by centric pressure were observed by Aramis system. The real size columns were loaded according to technical standard STN EN 380. For estimating the maximal disruption force, two calculations of theoretical load capacity were made. For determination of load levels according to STN EN 380, propose disruption force was calculated to 260 kN. The loading force 159 kN was calculated for fulfilment of safety conditions according to Eurocode 5. The mean value of tested columns load capacity was 264.6 kN implying that all columns meet safety conditions of construction element according Erocode 5. Results of the dissertation demonstrate that beech applied into the final product such as hollow wooden column is suitable material for use in construction systems of wooden structures, where nowadays spruce is primarily used. Furthermore, the suitability of beech wood containing the red heart wood use for this purpose was proved, since in terms of mechanical properties no statistically significant difference was confirmed between red heart wood and sapwood. From aesthetic point of view, it even brings more interesting design.
