Forest fires are becoming an increasing threat to forest ecosystems around the world. This threat is particularly affected by climate change such as drought and heat. Forest fires occur either by inappropriate handling with open fire or the effects of lightning or self-ignition. We analyzed the most common causes of the origin, the time of the fire, and the influence of the fire on the resistance potential of the forest. We also assessed the equipment used for extinguishing the forest fires. These results were evaluated for the period 2002-2017. On the basis of processed results, we found that forest fires occurred in the spring months in the afternoon. District Department of Fire and Rescue Service in Kežmarok recorded a total of 91 forest fires over a period of 15 years.
