Many aspects regarding the climate change will probably affect the growth and productivity of forests in the future (the increase of temperature, changes of precipitation, increase of carbon oxide, etc.). Trees and forests play the most important role in regulating our climate through the carbon cycle. However, the future trends of carbon cycle in forests are unsure due to the changes of global climate. The information about annual tree-rings can contribute to solving these questions because they directly quantify the addition of tree trunks which is tightly connected with their yearly creation of wood and the corresponding accumulation of carbon. The goal of this thesis is to check the potential of the dendochronological material gathered during the second cycle of National inventory taking of the forests in the Slovak Republic (2015-2016) for the reconstruction of the wood stock in the past and also investigate the growth of forests in the past. Using incremental probes and regressive analysis the author constructed partial models needed for the reconstruction of wood stock until the year 2005. For the reconstruction the author picked three main trees: spruce (Picea abies), fir (Abies alba), and beech (Fagus sylvatica). The real hectare increase of beech during the observed period of 10 years was 41 m3 and the one reconstructed by the author was 38,5 m3. The reconstructed increase of oak was identical with the real one and represented 18,8 m3. There was a bigger difference in the increase of spruce, the real one represented 39,9 m3 and the reconstructed one 32,7 m3. As the results of this thesis proved, the reconstruction of wood stock with the help of incremental probes is relatively accurate and so can be used in the scientific research. However, the use of this method of reconstruction is only appropriate if the change in the density of forests during the reconstructed period of time is taken into account.
