Degree of professional qualification: an engineer, abbr. Ing. Zvolen 2018, 72 pp. The master thesis deals with evaluation of variability, growth characteristics and health condition of the mountain pine (Pinus mugo TURRA) in the Ďumbier Tatras. There have been six areas set up in the Kumšt valley in an altitude of 1350, 1450, and 1550 m a.s.l. Three locations have been set up at the northeast exposure and three more at the southeast exposure. Thirty subjects of the mountain pine within each area have been analyzed for morphological signs and health conditions. From each subject the cones and the needles have been taken. Three pieces from each area have been used for evaluation of growing characteristics. The depth structure was tested from samples obtained by drill. The research has shown that in the areas of study the majority are pines with a crescent-shaped upright and procumbent growth form. The needles are dense and their color is dark green. The damage is mostly mechanical. The cones are simmetrical, the form according to the shape of the fruitive scales is mughus. The alltitude has a significant impact on variability of quantitative characters measured on the cones and the needles.
