Textiles are part of our everyday lives, they belong to group of flammable organic polymers and for that reason it is necessary to think about them from perspective of fire prevention and safety. Thesis is focused around evaluating fire characteristics of textiles based on method of sample flame propagation velocity by norm STN EN ISO 6941 and method of determining combustion heat by norm STN ISO 1928. It is impossible to determine definitely, from one fire characteristic, if one material is more flammable than other so it is always important to take more factors into account. In this work we tested six samples of chemical fibers from which last three were polyester textiles with different area mass, one non-flammable treated polyester textile next was polyamid textile and last was so called revolutionary material – nanotextile. Nanotextile was, compared to others, harder to ignite but after initiation burned fast and with ease. Flames of this textile were tall which would facilitate spreading of flames and this is important factor in overall velocity of spreading the fire. Important difference was found in the fact that nanotextile did not drip. Polyamid and polyester textiles were easy to ignite, burning was slower but they dripped which could negatively affect secondary spreading of fire even without direct contact with burnig textile. Non-flammable treated polyester textile did not burn, only degraded wich is possitive effect for fire prevention and safety.
