The aim of our thesis is directed towards the occurence of chosen owl species in the western part of Muránska planina National Park. Owl monitoring was carried out in February – April per years 2017 and 2018. Four transects were proposed in the territory of total length 21 km. Subsequently, evening walks were performed with the aim of capturing of acoustic or visual demonstrations of chosen owl species. Species distribution of Strix aluco, Strix uralensis, Aegolius funereus, Glaucidium passerinum, Asio otus was evaluated. Species distribution was confirmed on all transects. Their occurence and density depended on actual conditions of biotops as well as the stand ageing. Based on the results, we can indicate that fragmentation of forests, caused by large-scale deforestation and presence of monocultures, is negatively reflecting on the owl occurrence and density due to inadequate biotope conditions.
