The diploma thesis presents the issue of the development of structurally differentiated stands after the large-scale calamity that has affected the area of the High Tatras in 2004. The main aim of the work was to compare the current state of selected selection stands with their condition before wind calamity. The object of the research was two stands with a selection structure and a different tree species composition, which were located on the area of High Tatra National Park. In larch-spruce stand, which was located in compartment 487 in protective district Štrbské Pleso a permanent research plot of 0,5 ha was established in 1977. In fir-spruce stand in compartment 1242b in protective district Kežmarské Žľaby a permanent research plot of 0,25 ha was established. On both plots, we measured and evaluated the basic dendrometric quantities, which were divided according to tree species into a set of parent stand (dbh ≥ 8 cm), the set of saplings (dbh 1–8 cm) and in stand 487 also in a set of natural regeneration (dbh ≤ 1 cm). In all sets, we also calculated the relative significance of the species, which determined the representation of particular trees in the given set. We compared the actual state of the stands with the condition found before the wind calamity. Larch-spruce stand has been characterized by marked spruce dominance before the calamity. After the calamity, the parent stand was destroyed to 24 % of the original growing stock. The spruce was particularly affected, the larch ratio increased relatively and larch began to dominate. Before the calamity, the larch did not exist at all in the natural regeneration, it was formed by only a few specimens of spruce. After the calamity, we have seen an enormous increase in the abundance in both tree species. Based on total representation of the natural regeneration and saplings it is assumed that the larch will be further promoted in this stand, and it will be supplemented by a spruce. Before the wind calamity, the spruce also dominated in fir-spruce forest. After the calamity, which also had a negative impact especially on spruce, the fir tree was very pronounced and currently predominate over the spruce and on the basis of the results from a set of saplings, it is obvious that it will continue to dominate it. The growing stock of the parent stand currently represents 18 % of the original growing stock. In both stands, the existence of a partially differentiated structure has ensured, despite the significant damage caused by the calamity, the conservation of the vegetation without the necessity of its reconstruction through artificial regeneration.
