Forest fire belongs in terms of its location and subsequent disposal between a very demanding process, which requires a lot of technical, material and financial means and, last but not least, the skill of the fire-fighting crew itself. An important aspect of forest fires is that the intervention commander has to design the most efficient and effective deployment of the forces and resources that are in place to ensure the destruction of the fire and thus to save life, health and material values. The author deals with the current state of solved problems abroad and in Slovakia, analysis of the use of firefighting equipment of the District Headquarters of Fire and Rescue Brigade in Poprad, methodology of calculation of forces and means necessary for extinguishing forest fires and compares the efficiency of the use of water shuttle and long-distance water transportation by deploying HYTRANS pumping equipment in terms of time, number of staff members and economy.
