The diploma thesis deals with the meteorological conditions which affects forest fires. In this thesis the issue of forest fires, their classification, conditions affecting birth and spread of fire, meteorological fire indexes and forest fires prevention is analysed. Main principle of the thesis is analysing meteorological conditions specifically temperature and rainfall in the context of meteorological fire index calculation in 10 years term (2008 - 2017) in four different climatological stations of Technical university in Zvolen: Borová hora, Boky – north, Kráľová nad Zvolenom and Predná Poľana, which are located in different altitudes and different vegetation level. The goal is to point to the constantly increasing temperature values compared to the long-term average. Furthermore, the incidence of forest fires in years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2015 in area of Banská Bystrica region is analysed according to values of Angström fire index.
