The diploma work deals with the selected properties of coated thermal modified domestic wood species such as beech and Turkey oak. Surface coating was based on natural oils and waxes. Thermal modification of wood was temperature of 175 °C and 195°C during 4 hours.Changes in colour and gloss were depended on the type of coating. The greatest change in colour and gloss had hard waxy surfaces which were coated in two layers. Excellent cold-water resistance has performed on hard waxy treated surfaces, especially for beech wood without a thermal modification. For other surface treatments, damage by condensed milk has been reported. The linseed surface finish was most susceptible to damage by condensed milk and cleaning agent solution. The resistance of the surface against interior molds was best for the hard wax oil treated thermobeech. On other treated surfaces were the growth of mold Aspergillus niger and also Penicillium purpurogenum changed in varying intensity. The mold growing was depended on the type of coating substance.
