Tomáš Kiss, Woody plants preferences and their damaging by Eurasian beaver in the area of common ownership of lands and forests, Urbarial land Šuľany, Bachelor thesis, Technical University in Zvolen, Faculty of Forestry, Department of Applied Zoology and Wildlife Management, thesis supervisor doc. MVDr. Dušan Rajský, PhD., 66 page. The aim of this bachelor thesis was to assess food preferences of Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber) and damage to woody plants in the area common ownership of lands and forests, Urbarial land Šuľany. First, it was necessary to study and describe biology, occurrence and population of beaver in the relevant habitats of the Danube river inundation zone in the cadastral areas of Šuľany and Bodíky.Food preferences were assessed during the fieldwork part of the thesis in the two chosen areas of the Danube river branch system according to wood plant type, tree trunk diameter and distance from the edge of the water body. Data has been collected by direct measurements during the fieldwork. Based on the gained information about number and structure of the damaged wood plants as well as habitat characteristics it was possible to estimate the number of beavers in the family colonies in the observed area. Next part of the thesis consists of assessing the damage caused by beaver in the observed area and its reparation. Conclusions of the thesis should serve for managing this species of fauna in our nature conditions.
