In this work, we have approached the issue of snowpack and the interaction of the forest with snow and vice versa. We also carried out a characteristics of the territory Poľana and our thirteen research areas where the hydrophysical characteristics of the snowpack were measured. These were the snow depth, snow density and snow water equivalent. On each research site, we measured at three localities, and it in the Norway spruce stand, European beech stand and at an open forest area. Research and field measurements were carried out in the winter season 2017/2018. We gradually collected the measurement outputs and evaluated each characteristic at the end of the winter. We determine the winter peak on March 7, 2018. In evaluating the results, we concluded that the snow depth and snow water equivalent had a similar shape of the curves, since the snow water equivalent is directly dependent on the snow depth. We also found that the snow depth and snow water equivalent grew with a rising altitude. Their value is lower on slopes with south exposition, compared to northern exposition, due to higher sunlight. The values of all the snowpack characteristics have generally increased with the decline of canopy. On an open forest area they were the highest, while in the spruce stand was the lowest. We attribute this, especially to the effect of interception on storage of snowfall. Monitoring of the snowpack is particularly important in terms of water management, where it has a great effect on the spring water reserves in the catchment area when it is heated by snow, and thus has an impact on the year-round situation in the catchment area. Forest has a significant impact on its ability to retain water, rainfall, protective function, and others.
