The aim of the bachelor thesis is to design overlay for resorting the functional surfaces of the cutting blade. The design was created based on analysis of work environment and material analysis of cutting knife tool. In the theoretical part of the thesis cutting machines, tool materials, types of wear and options of increasing service life of cutting machines are analyzed; the focus is on the increase of service life of machines by surfacing. In the empirical part this experiment is realized. Based on the analysis of tool material, its hardness and type of abrasion, suitable welding materials were chosen which were applied on the function area of the tool. Subsequently a hardness test was made, metallography and microscopy to find out the most suitable selection of overlay, mainly cohesion beteen overlay and woof. Preserving its features, a good welding material can increase sercive life of a tool, which is evaluated in the results of the thesis.
