The aim of our diploma thesis is to verify the preparedness of members of the municipal voluntary fire brigades of the territorial organization of the 1st District of the Voluntary Fire Protection of the town of Zlaté Moravce in case of oil leakage with using of segments from the flood carriage. Our diploma thesis consists of two basic parts. The first theoretical part deals with the basic valid legislation through laws, decrees and methodological sheets and flood protection in the Slovak Republic. In the first part we also describe flood control measures in the neighboring states which the Slovak Republic has shared watercourses with. We focused on the countries that are members of the European Union, namely the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland and Hungary. In this part we described flood control measures in the Slovak Republic in the past and present, too. The second part of the thesis is focused on a specific object of investigation, namely the municipal voluntary fire brigades of the 1st District of the Voluntary Fire Protection of the town of Zlaté Moravce. Verification of the preparedness took place on the tactical exercise on the Slepčany water reservoir. We evaluated the time of the firefighting units' arrival at the venue, the composition of the participating members, the equipment of the members by personal protective means, and the communication that took place at the scene. However, the greatest attention was paid to the use of individual segments of the flood carriage. In each of the observed fields except checking the time of the firefighting units we drew attention to the shortcomings of the voluntary fire brigades. We noted the shortcomings mainly in the personal protective equipment and its use, but also in the equipment of the fire brigade with a radio station.There was found a major problem in the main part of our observation. Fire brigade commanders were trained to work with individual segments but their knowledge wasn´t transferred towards to other members of the fire brigade. Participating members had many shortcomings in the methodological approach to working with individual segments of the flood carriage. After removing these deficiencies and re-training on tactical exercise, the municipal voluntary fire brigades will be fully able to protect the state and its citizens in emergencies.
