In the development of other species, the species of honey bee played an extraordinary role. Even today, the whole human society is dependent on the abundance of this small creature. In the post-glacial period, bees survived in our areas in the cavities of the primeval forest communities. The gradual expansion of human into the environment is related to the adaptation of the landscape and domestication of indigenous species. This process was also subjected to the honey bee as well as the original environment – forests. In the bachelor thesis we are describing the origin of the species, the basic ecological relations that formed bees themselves as well as the environment and the interacting species. We are characterizing the basic forms of gradual domestication of bees in the environment of central Europe as well as the graduating impact of man on the forests as the home environment of bees. We are introducing the most represented groups of forest types in Slovakia in terms of trophic possibilities and nesting opportunities. We are identifying the influence of honey bees on the diversity of forest communities, which is the basis for their resilience and adaptability. We are describing the current state of bee occurrence in the forest lands and methods for further searching. Beekeeping in forests could be promising side business for forest owners and managers. It can be a significant factor in increasing diversity as well as a way to bring honey bee back into our forests.
